Certified Nursing Assistant

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) prepares you for a fulfilling career as a health care provider and serves as a great entry-point into many careers in medicine, including licensed vocational nurse or a registered nurse.
Working closely with nurses, CNAs provide hands-on care for patients in hospitals and residents of long-term care facilities as well as home care, hospice, rehabs and many urgent care facilities, such as clinics and doctor's offices.
Program Description
This 112-hour CNA program meets all requirements established by the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities. After completion of the program; graduates will demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired, in a state-given, nationally-standardized exam. After successful completion of this exam, the students name will be listed on the Texas State Registry for Certified Nurse Assistants.
Admissions Requirements
The ACC CNA program is open to any person at least 16-years-old at the start of the course, along with the following requirements:
- Be able to effectively communicate orally and in-writing with English
- Have a basic understanding of computers and access to email
- Be physically able to stand for prolonged periods and maneuver in limited spaces
- Be able to push/pull/lift 50+ pounds
- Visit the CEWD Healthcare page for the Viewpoint Screening and the application process, which will require:
- Pass a criminal background check
- Be current in health care vaccinations
- CEWD Physical form completed
- Have a current American Heart Association CPR/BLS certification
- Read and understand HB1508 requirements for the licensing path

Required Courses and Course Descriptions
This class serves as the lecture portion of the CNA program and will prepare you for entry-level employment as a nursing assistant. You will gain the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term and acute care facilities. Class topics include: Assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety; Communication; Observation and reporting; Residents’ rights; Safety.
This class focuses on the clinical, bed-side care of long-term residents and acute-care patients to promote the continuity of care.

Program Investment
The approximate in-district cost of the CNA program is $1,568 and does not include Viewpoint Screening, physical exam, books, licensing exam, supplies or scrubs. Tuition and fees are subject to change.
